Improving Our Nation Through Better Design

Initiative Overview:

• Launch of "America by Design" to enhance digital and physical interfaces between the government and the public.

Establishment of National Design Studio (NDS):

• Located within the White House Office of the Executive Office of the President.
• Includes a Chief Design Officer responsible for coordinating design improvements across agencies.

Responsibilities of the Chief Design Officer:

• Recruit creative talent and coordinate design efforts.
• Collaborate with agencies to implement design standards.
• Facilitate consultations with design experts and firms.

Agency Responsibilities:

• Heads of agencies must consult with the Chief Design Officer to enhance services and report progress by July 4, 2026.
• Prioritize improvements to impactful websites and physical locations.
• Ensure compliance with the 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act.

Implementation and Compliance:

• The initiative will be carried out in accordance with existing laws and budget constraints.
• The order does not create enforceable rights or benefits against the United States or its entities.
