Summary of Executive Order

Section 1: Purpose and Policy

Section 2: Saving Our Smithsonian

  • Vice President will collaborate to remove improper ideology from Smithsonian properties and recommend further actions.
  • Future appropriations to the Smithsonian will:
    • Ban funding for exhibits that undermine American values or promote divisive ideologies.
    • Ensure recognition of women in the American Women’s History Museum without acknowledgment of men as women.
  • Other relevant officials will take appropriate measures to support this order.
  • Vice President will seek citizen appointments to the Smithsonian Board of Regents aligned with these policies.

Section 3: Restoring Independence Hall

  • Funding will be allocated for infrastructure improvements at Independence National Historical Park, aiming for completion by July 4, 2026.

Section 4: Restoring Truth in American History

  • Secretary of the Interior will:
    • Assess changes to public monuments since January 1, 2020.
    • Reinstate original monuments or similar properties aligned with legal standards.
    • Ensure that all public monuments focus on positive historical narratives rather than disparaging content.

Section 5: General Provisions

  • Clarifies that the order does not affect existing authority of executive departments or the Office of Management and Budget.
